What do ADHD, the spine, and Chiropractic have in common?

More than you may think. ADHD is acronym for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This is a neurobehavioral disorder, or a brain-behavior disorder. Symptoms of ADHD are lack of or inability to focus, hyperactivity, inattentiveness, and difficulty or inability to regulate emotions. People or children with ADHD, ‘seem revved up, and they can’t do anything about it.’

ADHD effects motor abilities

Somewhere around half of kids that are diagnosed with ADHD show some hindrance in their motor skills. This means with the way they run or walk.

Symmetric Tonic Neck Reflex

We have a reflex in our neck that assists us to work the upper body and lower body separately. It allows babies to get on their hands and knees, and to begin to crawl. It develops around 6-8 months of age and should be diminished within 6 months of a child beginning to walk.

The Research

More research is immerging about STNR and ADHD. Research is showing is that a spinal nerve dysfunction may be a major factor (or primary cause) in ADHD. When STNR is retained, it can cause a manifestation of symptoms including poor memory, lack of concentration, and inability to sit still.

Where Does Chiropractic Come In?

Does this all sound familiar? The beautiful thing about this is, with a specially trained chiropractor, your child is set! Results of regular, individualized, and focused chiropractic care show great results of improved sleep quality, better visual stimulated responses, and overall, a better quality of life.

What That Means…

When we help a child, we are helping the whole family, because let’s face it, when one child isn’t sleeping well and has concentration struggles, it affects the whole family! It especially affects Mom and Dad. When that child is sleeping better, parents sleep better. This translates into better relationships, improved school performance and social interactions, better homework focus, ease of completing chores and other daily tasks, the list goes on.
